So, you've read The Secret but your life is pretty much the same. Your thoughts on abundance didn't change that crummy job; in fact, the tedious work increased along with what you pay-out for gas to get there. You thank your coffee every morning and now you drink more of it rather than need it less. Humph! Years after reading Deepak Chopra's The Seven Spiritual Laws, you can't remember anything about the laws of intent-only that it's important to bring a flower to the host when attending a dinner party. Wait, that's pretty much what your Mom said all along. Oh, and yes, Louise Hay's You Can Heal Your Life has confirmed that your sinus head-aches are caused by your irritation at all those crazy people close to you. Great! You tried meditating, but mostly just fell asleep. Right, it's all just a load of hooey. But maybe...well, could it be that you are still being punished for some misdemeanor done in the past? Okay, are you finally ready to really understand how those spiritual laws work? Then let's take it to the next level to have your questions answered. Go ahead read Just How Do Affirmations Work?

After seeing lots of positive reviews, I had high hopes for something substantial. The kindle version of this book has got to be the worst kindle formatting I've read bar none. Towards the middle of the book it was the worst with random sentences cut off mid way and then what appeared to be several sentences missing and then a restart at another mid sentence that made the discontinuity glaring. This didn't happen just a few times but several dozen times. Other formatting/missing parts appeared randomly here and there in the rest of the book.

As to the positive, there was a section which asked a number of questions that could give one personal ideas of why affirmations/desires were currently out of reach due to perhaps unexamined limits. A section on "shadow material" would have been helpful here but that didn't occur. Shadow material are parts of one's self that one has "cut" off, placed in a bag, and that they drag around behind them as forgotten and/or ignored personality traits that their society, religion, relatives, friends and family, think are unacceptable. This limits their progress in personal development, life experiences, decision making, an is a large drag on their personal happiness. Those certainly are hidden obstacles to achievement and happiness that are rarely examined or even reintegrated to become complete again. Most people suspect they are missing important parts of themselves at some level but never reintegrate them. See " A Little Book on the Human Shadow" by Robert Bly or something related.

On the negative side, there was too much personal material from the author about affirmations that didn't occur so those affirmations were changed to "fit" outcomes. Reminded me too much of psychics who use ambiguity in their assertions allowing them to interpret outcomes to make them "right". If this was real science at all (which it's not by a long shot to be perfectly clear), modifying the hypothesis (affirmation) to fit the experimental data is an invalid process. If the data invalidates a hypothesis, then that hypothesis FAILS and a new one has to be developed. Additionally, what I found most off-putting is when writers use words that they think make them appear "informed" and mix and match them together into "pseudo mumbo jumbo" which on examination has no meaning at all and often are just outright foolish at best, garbage at worst. Use of the word "quantum" for example is a giant red flag in most cases.

Just How DO Affirmations Work? Removal of Energy Blocks May Sinclair 9781449933975 Books Reviews

A long-time admirer of Dr. Sinclair's other writings, I was excited to read her new release "Just How DO Affirmations Work?" In this book, Dr. Sinclair takes you to a new level in understanding. Realizing that whatever you are experiencing in your life's journey is the "effect", she provides probing insights in helping one self-determine for themselves the real cause of any obstruction or discord in your life, sharing her knowledge in how to change your affirmations to those that work.
I'm one of those people who willingly got a copy of the first printing of this book (staples and all) placed into my hands directly from the author. The new version of the book isn't much changed, but my life did change when I began using its tools in it to understand what I'd been bringing into my life. I may not know everything yet, but I have no doubt that my thoughts have a direct connection to what I believe about myself and the rest of the world.
I am learning to take control of my thoughts and create a positive lifestyle and environment, thanks to May's books and workshops. In this particular book, May simplifies the affirmation process for those of us who are examining the thoughts and feelings we allow into our lives and how they effect us every day. Just How DO Affirmations Work? is the latest release from acclaimed author May Sinclair. This book is insightful, helpful and intelligently written. Ms. Sinclair inspires and promotes self-awareness and healing through journaling and personal reflection. As a former student of the author, I can tell you this book should be used as an extension and addition to her dream workshop series. I encourage anyone who desires to self-help (and lives in Southern CA) to contact the author about how one can attend these valuable seminars. If you don't live in Southern CA, the book is a wonderful tool to be used separately as well. Just How DO Affirmations Work? - buy the book to find out!!
Just How Do Affirmations Work?, by May Sinclair, informs us of not only how positive and negative affirmations work, but it helps us to be aware of the daily affirmations we unwittingly use. She teaches by the use of personal examples than gives us some affirmations to try out on our own. Definitely a good guide book.
I read this book expecting just another how to on doing your affirmations. You know the ones I'm talking about. We've all read them for years, and still, our manifesting skills are definitely lacking, at least in certain areas.

Boy, was I in for a surprise! Ms. Sinclair had an entirely different approach. It was refreshing to read a book on affirmations that walks us through the real work of doing affirmations, such as doing the soul deep digging around that is necessary to locate and identify the obstacles holding us back. She also makes us take a good look at whether or not our affirmations are in alignment with what we really want, and not what we think we want.... or what we think we are supposed to want. Perhaps, she supposes, we don't even know what we want. Here, she walks us through a process to get very clear on our desires, and perfect affirmations to achieve the desired result. Very enlightening, indeed!
There were several things I liked about this book. One is the examples the author used. Nothing sordid or creepy, just the affirmations she made and what happened when she made them. She pointed out what she has believed that was often mixed-up and that caused her affirmations to bring events in her reality with those same mixed result. I also liked the way she broke down how a person can discover their mixed beliefs that is easy to follow and very eye opening. And I appreciated the way the author didn't condemn anyone's beliefs, only constantly reinforced that what a person believes affects what happens in their life. I am recommending this book to my friends and family...and whoever is reading this review.
